The girl was only 19!

Texas A&M student Brianna Aguilera was pronounced dead after she was discovered outside a West Campus apartment following a college football game. Police have said the case is not being handled as a homicide, though not everyone accepts that the death was accidental. Aguilera’s mother has raised concerns and says she suspects foul play.

On November 29, after the University of Texas vs. Texas A&M football game, officers responded to a call about an unresponsive person at an apartment complex in Austin, Texas. Brianna Aguilera, a 19-year-old from Laredo, was pronounced dead at the scene. In a statement, police said the incident was not being investigated as a homicide and that there were no signs of suspicious circumstances. Her cause of death has not yet been released, and authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.

In her obituary, Brianna was remembered as a remarkable daughter whose presence brightened the lives of those around her. She graduated from United High School in 2024 with Magna Cum Laude honors and went on to pursue her studies at Texas A&M.

As of December 2, the Austin Police Department told People that the case is still open and actively being investigated, with detectives continuing to interview witnesses and collect evidence. However, the department said the information gathered so far does not indicate homicide and that there is currently no evidence suggesting criminal or suspicious circumstances. Police added that the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.

Much remains unclear about what happened, but Brianna’s mother, Jennifer, said she does not believe her daughter’s death was “an accident.” She told People that she thinks the circumstances don’t add up and suggested possibilities such as Brianna being pushed or falling while intoxicated, emphasizing that her daughter was small and did not handle alcohol well. She also said she was upset by any suggestion that Brianna may have been suicidal, insisting that she showed no signs of that and had been excited about her future, including her goal of becoming a lawyer.

Her mother also claimed there may have been an argument at a party involving Brianna and others, alleging it stemmed from a dispute with another girl over a boyfriend.

Rest in peace, Brianna.
