12 US States Face Hazardous Winter Storm Warnings — Weather Forecast Through Saturday

The cold is not just uncomfortable—it’s dangerous. Across 12 U.S. states, ice-covered roads, bowing power lines, and high winds are making travel hazardous, and officials are warning residents to stay home and prepare for the worst.

From Arkansas and Oklahoma to Pennsylvania and Mississippi, heavy snow and slick ice are grinding daily life to a halt. Gusts approaching 50 mph are creating whiteout conditions that can strand vehicles in seconds.

In West Virginia, wind chills near -15°F put anyone outside at serious risk of frostbite, particularly the unhoused or those without proper clothing.

Authorities are urging people to postpone nonessential travel and to stock vehicles with blankets, food, water, and phone chargers in case they become stranded.

Bridges and overpasses are especially treacherous, often icing before regular roads, and drivers are advised to use extreme caution.

Forecasters warn the storm will bring power outages, school closures, and flight cancellations as it pushes east through Saturday.

Despite the severity, officials stress that preparation can sharply reduce the storm’s human toll. Checking on elderly neighbors and ensuring homes are stocked with essentials are key steps.

As winter grips much of the country, residents are reminded that careful planning, staying indoors when possible, and respecting official warnings are the best ways to stay safe during extreme weather.
