A NIGHT THE SKY TURNED AGAINST US

The first rumble of thunder sounded ordinary enough, rolling softly over the rooftops on what had been a calm evening. No one suspected that within moments, everything would change.

The sky suddenly erupted, unleashing a barrage of hail that slammed into homes with shocking force. The sound was overwhelming, like fists pounding relentlessly from above.

Hailstones the size of golf balls—and in some areas as large as baseballs—crashed onto cars, shattering windshields and denting metal. Neighbors scrambled for cover as the storm intensified.

Lightning flashes briefly illuminated the destruction as it happened. Roofs shuddered under repeated impacts, walls trembled, and the air felt charged with danger and disbelief.

When the storm finally eased, the town emerged to a scene barely recognizable. Streets were coated in thick layers of ice, branches littered the ground, and debris lay scattered everywhere.

Despite the damage, relief spread quickly as residents realized most people were safe. Doors opened, and neighbors checked on one another, offering help and reassurance.

Groups began clearing sidewalks, sharing tools, and trading stories of where they had been when the hail began. Fear slowly gave way to connection and cooperation.

The storm left broken glass and damaged roofs behind, but it also revealed something enduring. In the face of sudden chaos, the community discovered its strength—and that realization will last far longer than the repairs.
