Yes, vinegar helps clean the washing machine thoroughly: here’s how to use it

Keeping a washing machine clean often feels like an overlooked chore, yet regular maintenance can save hours of effort later and help the appliance run more efficiently. Dirt, detergent residue, lint, and moisture gradually build up inside the drum and filters, creating odors and reducing performance. With a few simple habits and natural products, it’s easy to keep your machine fresh and functioning properly.

One of the most effective and affordable solutions is white vinegar. This common household ingredient helps dissolve mineral deposits, remove soap buildup, and eliminate unpleasant smells. Unlike harsh chemical cleaners, vinegar is gentle on surfaces while still being powerful enough to disinfect and deodorize. It’s a practical option for routine care.

Start by removing any detachable parts such as the detergent drawer, filters, and covers. Wash these pieces separately using warm water and a sponge to scrub away residue. Pay attention to hidden spots where lint or hair may collect. Dry everything thoroughly before placing the parts back into the machine.

Next, clean the inside of the washer. Pour white vinegar into the detergent compartment and run an empty cycle at a standard or warm temperature. This allows the vinegar to circulate through the drum and internal pipes, breaking down buildup and flushing out bacteria. For deeper stains, baking soda can be added for extra cleaning power.

Don’t forget the exterior. Wipe the door, rubber seals, and control panel with a mixture of water and vinegar. Let it sit briefly to loosen grime, then dry with a clean cloth. This keeps the machine looking new and prevents mold from forming around damp areas.

White vinegar can also be used throughout the home for sinks, faucets, mirrors, floors, and tiles. Cleaning your washing machine monthly—or more often with heavy use—extends its lifespan and keeps your laundry smelling fresh. Simple, natural care makes all the difference.
