American tourists left stranded in beautiful Mexico hotspot as cartels torch cars and wreak havoc in ‘code red’ attack

Violence has erupted in Puerto Vallarta, a major tourist destination in Mexico, following a federal operation targeting a high-profile cartel leader in the state of Jalisco. The incident raised immediate security concerns across the region.

The unrest reportedly began after Mexican Army conducted an early-morning mission in Tapalpa, located southeast of Puerto Vallarta. Details of the operation remain limited as authorities continue investigations.

In the aftermath, coordinated retaliatory incidents spread across nearby areas. Reports described vehicles set on fire, roadblocks blocking major routes, and armed confrontations between security forces and suspected criminal groups.

Images shared online showed buses and trucks engulfed in flames, with thick smoke rising over parts of Guadalajara and surrounding communities. The visuals quickly circulated, heightening public concern and drawing international attention.

Local residents reported hearing gunfire and seeing armed individuals moving through certain neighborhoods. These accounts, while difficult to independently verify in real time, contributed to growing anxiety among residents and visitors.

In response to the escalating situation, United States Department of State issued a security alert advising American citizens in the region to shelter in place, avoid large gatherings, and limit travel until conditions stabilize.

Authorities increased their presence across affected areas, deploying additional personnel to restore order and secure major roads. Officials emphasized that operations were ongoing and urged the public to remain cautious.

Travelers are being encouraged to monitor official updates and follow guidance from local and international authorities. As the situation continues to develop, safety recommendations may change depending on security conditions across the region.
